Mike Kyalo

I am a kenyan born artist based at the GoDown Art Center. I specialize on paintings. My keen focus is on current issues on how I see and understand the environment which I live day in day out. I like to use impressionism to express myself. In some of my paintings light and shadow are important with its intensity depending on what I want to achieve with the painting.

I am inspired by day to day social economic activities affecting people.  In men, I am interested in body language, the composition and the seriousness that comes out during their work thus extracting both positive and negative values in them.

I have worked with dry pastels, oil paints, Acrylics paints, chalk and charcoal on paper, cardboard and canvas. My work has been exhibited in several group exhibitions at the GoDowmn Center, Paa ya Paa, Village Market, Photizo Art Gallery, Alliance Francaise Nairobi among other places.

In 2012, I won second prize in the ‘Experiencing Heritage through Art’ Competition organised by the Nairobi National Museum, with my painting ‘Utumishi Kwa Wote’ which afterwards became their collection.
