Joseph Bertiers

Joseph Bertiers, a renown Kenya born popular artist, trained at the YMCA Crafts Training Center in Nairobi, began his career painting signs for local bars. Unsatisfied with painting for commercial purposes, his work quickly became more political, fed by his deep interest in current events. He describes creating awareness of the social and political issues affecting ordinary people as his key artistic driver. His sculptures, like his paintings, are imbued with humour, social commentary and satire at the same time. His work is exhibited and collected locally and internationally.
