Rolly Mpassa

Rolly Mpassa was born and raised born in Kinshasa, DRC. He studied at the Academie Des Beaux-Art in Kinshasa, where he is also currently working as a lecturer. Apart from painting, Mpassa engages in training deaf people, particularly children, in art and organises art exhibitions with them.

Through his art, inspired by sign language; he addresses issues concerning various facts in society and human challenges. He uses letters, numbers and sign language, mixed with aesthetic combination of colour and semi abstract compositions; trying to put a bridge between two worlds: those who hear with their ears and those who “hear with their eyes” through hand signs in a bit to pass across his messages and tell his stories with no communication barriers, while at the same time, paint a world of limitless possibilities and equality among humans regardless of physical impairments of some.
