Jerry Kamate

Kamate was born in Kinshasa, DRC. He works and reside in Kinshasa, he uses art to express human values such as good, truth, justice, harmony and the spirit of this world with very vivid colours.

He began painting from his childhood and attended the Academy of Fine Arts where he followed rigorous training.

 Kamate draws his inspirations from scenes from daily life and nature such as a mother and child, and women in half naked postures. He interprets them freely, with his sensitivity and values that are dear to him: goodness, truth, justice and harmony.

His preference for pure, lightly mixed and vibrant colours and textures of raw materials reinforces feeling of spontaneity. In the manner of the impressionist masters, he instinctively applies art materials with successive touches, rendering the paint strokes visible. This juxtaposition of color in form of “commas” gives shape and volume to objects and characters.
