This year’s Art Auction East Africa was held on Tuesday 5th of March at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Upper Hill. This year was the record auction sale since the auctions began in 2013. Total sales exceeded $300,000 and 90% of the 59 lots were sold on the auction night. the biggest sale of the night was of-course Edward Saidi tingatinga’s elephant eating from a marula tree which was sold at a record $56,352.
Yassir Ali’s Joy of colours was sold at $5,870 almost double the minimum estimated value of $3,000. Cartoon Joseph’s painting was sold at $3,522.

Ali grew up with a strong attachment to his Nubian identity. The same is carried over to his art works. He enjoys working with Nubian decorative symbols and exploring subjects that affect his Nubian identity.
